Since Urukposa was a child, he has been passionate about Engineering. He had never thought about studying abroad due to his family’s financial constraints. Yet, the Hon Ping Scholarship for Nigerian Students enabled Urukposa to kickstart his dream catching journey at HKU and in Hong Kong.

When he graduated from high school in 2021 in Ghana, COVID-19 struck. His family faced enormous financial challenge. At that most devastating time, he was thrilled to be admitted to HKU with the full scholarship because of his outstanding academic performance. At HKU, he could explore the Engineering disciplines, experience the residential hall life at St John’s and play Lacrosse, as well as get to know students and teachers from different cultural backgrounds. With his experience at HKU, Urukposa is helping to give advices to the high school students in Nigeria who are interested in coming to Hong Kong to further their studies.

“I am deeply grateful to the scholarship donor, my family and my secondary school teachers for their support in everything I have pursued,” said Urukposa. Being a full scholarship recipient, he is able to make use of the scholarship to embark on his all-rounded experience in HKU.
